i really need some help with linux mandrake 9.1 . It detects my sound card which is mercury AC 97 but when i try to play any sounds it doesn't work. I had a similar problem with win xp but the company provided the c-media audio config tool which allowed me to play sound. When i check on the mandrake control centre it recognises it is c-media and it is a VIA 8235 (DUPLEX). Im not sure whether to try the c-media config tool on linux. I am using mercury speakers but i am not sure whether trying to install the software on linux will work. Any suggestions?

installing a sound detection program for windows on linux will most definately not work....

open Menu - Mutlimedia - Sound - Volume Control on the menu and see if you have selectors avialable ... make sure that they are not turned all the way down...
