Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

I was wondering how in Linux you can tar information from a file.

In Unix I could simply type tar -cvfF (tar file name) FILE

Please help!!!!

to tar files just type:
tar -cf file.tar <list files here>

then you can gzip it if you want by typing:
gzip file.tar
