i am setting up SNORT for this i need ,apache, php, mysql, and acid. on rh9.
iI am upto installing PHP and this is what happend

root@linbox php-4.3.3]# ./configure --prefix=/www/php --with-apxs2=/www/bin/apxs --with-config-file-path=/www/php --enable-sockets --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-zlib-dir=/usr/local --with-gd

i got this at the end of the output

If configure fails try --with-jpeg-dir=<DIR>
configure: error: libpng.(a|so) not found.

then i tried it by adding --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/lib

the libpng file is also in /usr/lib

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue please.

As the root user, try editing the file /etc/ and adding any of these locations that are not already there:

Then save the file and issue the command ldconfig ... and reissue the command ldconfig (due to a bug sometimes issuing the command twice or a reboot is required).

Then try compiling the files again...

Do what I did...When you install linux choses the php, apache, mysql, ect. and you dont half to worry about all that stuff and installing it...apache works great, php works just fine but I'm having trouble setting up a database for mysql...ha the one think i need right now is the one thing ive been learning in school...

first of all be sure you have the libjpeg rpm installed
if not you have to install that first before compiling php.
and you shouldnt have to edit your /etc/ file
