If you are trying to install items from the mandrake CDs, place the cd in the drive and then see if it mounted ... in a terminal window type:

ls /mnt/cdrom

If you get info, the cd is mounted.

To install software in mandrake (from the mandrake cd's) you can use the GUI at :

Menu - Configuration - Packaging - Install Software

(you can launch htis same screen by typing /usr/sbin/rpmdrake --root as another user ... or just /usr/sbin/rpmdrake if you are already the root user)

If you know the name of your package {lets say kernel-source}, you can also install it via the command prompt using the urpmi command ... the command to install kernel-source would be:

urpmi kernel-source
