my distro is Redhat 9
i getting the error when i boot the kernel 2.6.0

VFS:cannot open root device "sda2"or unknown-block (0,0)
Please append correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

My root partition is ext3 which is not loaded as module

i install module-init-tools
aslo select correct ATA chipsets

sda2 is a SCSI drive .... is that correct for your boot drive? I ask because you talk about ATA chipset ... and that is IDE not SCSI...
