Hi everyone, I'm sure this is a really basic question but I'd appreciate any help.

I recently downloaded the latest 'stable' debian distribution 3.0r1 and burnt in onto cds. I plan to keep my existing win2k on my main hard drive and use my secondary drive for linux to try and learn.

When I boot with the cd in, it recognises that the cd is bootable and presents me with a "boot:" prompt. However nothing I press or do seems to load the setup program.

I thought of making a bootable floppy however I can't seem to find any documentation on how to do this.

Are there any suggestions as to why the cd wouldn't boot? Or to making a bootable floppy?

Thankyou!

Does anything work (for example, does pressing F1 go to the help screen?)...

Just pressing the Enter key should start the boot process ... when you press enter, what happens?

Try booting from cd-5 (it is the 2.4.18 kernel).

Here are directions for making bootable floppies...

I tried booting from cd 5 and get the same thing.

I get the "boot from CD:" prompt (normally my win 2k displays a few dots incrementally, like a count down timer - but this does not appear in this case) and I press Enter and there is no response.

I just noticed as well that I can seem to right shift into safe mode or use F8 to get to a boot menu. Not sure why.

I might try a floppy.

Thankyou very much for your help!
