total newbie so be gentle! but i need help desperately tried searching everywhere & man am i confused blink.gif kernel
& i get this when i try to install
*** WARNING ***
Tailored kernel module for fglrx not present in your system.
You must go to /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod subdir
and execute './make.sh' to build a fully customed kernel module.
Afterwards go to /lib/modules/fglrx and run './make_install.sh'
in order to install the module into your kernel's module repository.
(see readme.txt for more details.)

As of now you can still run your XServer in 2D, but hardware acclerated
OpenGL will not work and 2D graphics will lack performance.

failed.
*** Error: no kernel module build environment - please consult readme.
Installed: qt3 (gcc 3.2) based control panel application
===
ATI display drivers successfully installed
please run 'fglrxconfig' now

You need to install (or verify you have already installed) the packages:

gcc
make
kernel-source

the command:
rpm -q gcc make kernel-source

Should tell you if they are installed or missing...install the missing ones and try again.

ok from the readme
"Perform the following steps:
- get the matching Linux kernel source
- run "make distclean"
- setup that kernel source with the config file matching your kernel
- run "make dep" on the kernel source tree
- go to "/lib/module/fglrx/build_mod" and enter "./make.sh"
- go to "/lib/module/fglrx" and enter "./make_install.sh"

ok, its this bit thats seems to be the killer,
- setup that kernel source with the config file matching your kernel
as when i try to install i get
initializing...
Error:
kernel includes at /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/build/include do not match current kernel.
they are versioned as "2.4.22-10mdkcustom"
instead of "2.4.22-10mdk".
you might need to adjust your symlinks:
- /usr/include
- /usr/src/linux

any help is greatly appreciated (gotta get away from being 0wned by micro$oft)

It is common for Mandrake and RedHat to add the custom on a make dep if kernel already exists...but supossedly it works for the ATI install.

According to this thread (at linuxquestions.com), the command:

rpm -i --force fglrx-glccurrent version

(i would use rpm -Uvh --force fglrx-glccurrent version instead)

There is also an excellent post by user named Thetargos on the same page....
