Hello, I am still somewhat new to linux and have come across a problem I can not figure out. When ever I try to shutdown the system to install some new bit of hardware I get the following error message.

I am running Red Hat 7.2 on a AMD K6II processor with 400K of mem. and have a 40G harddrive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

According to my research this happens in at least RedHat 7.x, 8, and Mandrake 7.0, 7.1, and 8.2.

Here is a reference with a fix.
