Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

I installed linux 7.1 today and Im a really newbie. I didnt know how would I run program until now. I commanded startx and an error occured as "no screens found" I dont what to do pls help me. unsure.gif unsure.gif

You need to look up the frequency specs for your monitor on the web ... then edit the file:

/etc/X11/XF86Config

and change the lines:

HorizSync xx-xx
VertRefresh xx-xx


If your monitor was an NEC E1100 (that is the monitor I use), the scan rates would be:

HorizSync 31-82
VertRefresh 55-120

You also need to make sure you are using the correct video card driver:

see this LIST, find your card's driver, edit /etc/X11/XF86Config again and make sure the driver line has the correct driver from the list...my Nvidia Geforce card looks like this:

   BoardName "Nvidia GeForce 5200"
   Driver "nv"
   Option "DPMS"
