Hello everyone.

This *should* be a simple question! I have set up ntpd to sync the time on my linux box. My question is how can I enable the entire network (All windows machines) to use the Linux box as a timeserver. In other words, set the LInux box up as a time-server..

Many Thanks!!

Michael.......

To make your Linux server an NTP server, you need a line similar to this in the /etc/ntp.conf file:

fudge 127.127.1.0 stratum 10

If you have a Windows 2K (or 2003) Domain controller and Windows 2000 or higher clients they already sync time with the domain controller, so you only need to have the domain controller sync up with an NTP server.

To make a 2000/2003 server (or a Windows 2K / Windows XP workstation if no domain controller) point to an NTP server for time use this command:

net time /SETSNTP:192.168.0.4

(substitute your NTP server's IP for 192.168.0.4 ... or if you want to have a list of servers use /SETSNTP:"192.168.0.4 192.168.0.5").
