What do you mean by "How to change the desktop area"?

Do you mean switching between workspaces 1,2,3,4,... do you want to add Launchers (shortcuts) to the desktop... do you want to change the background? ... or something else.

If you have redhat 8 or 9, go to Menu - System Settings - Display to change screen resolution in X-Windows.
