I am trying to perform a whois lookup from any one of the three following programs:

bw-whois
whois
nslookup

nslookup supposedly works, but returns erroneus information.

With the other two, I get the same error message:

getaddrinfo: No address associated with hostname

Get anybody help me out?

did you install bw whois properly? you should have the whois.conf and tlds.conf file in your /etc/ directory (or maybe its /etc/whois/)

nslookup will not return whois information. nslookup is depreciated anyhow, you should use the host command.

whats the domain you're trying to look up?

I got it - for some reason the DNS from zoneedit wouldn't allow my bw-whois to perform the search. Switched to my ISP's DNS and it works.

Thanks anyhow.
