hi
ive got redhat 9 installed on a toshiba s1000 laptop ive installed mplayer ,some graphics progs and god knows what in dependances all from rpms ive also installed a kernel with caps from ccrma (a computer music company) the problem is this box now seems every unstable progs are crashing and locking up cpu is peaking even when theres not much running and the hard drive keeps lighting up and spining like its busy when theres no program runing except X

please help!

When everything starts going to shit open up a terminal and type the command top

It will show you want is going on and what is using cpu/memory etc.
