I just installed Linux on my machine, but telnet/ftp does not work.
I can not even telnet/ftp localhost Ping is OK. I selected to install no firewall. What should I do to make it work? |

Don't use telnet, or ftp. Use ssh, which provides the functionality of both, but handles them securly. Telnet and FTPd tranfer username, passwords, and other data that you may not want people to see, in plain text. There is a couple SSH guide on this site, check out the guides section.
If you are really hard pressed on getting telnet and ftp specifically, and don't care about the security issues, check /etc/inetd.conf or depending on your distribution, and what kind of inetd it runs, it may be /etc/xinetd.conf, and make sure telnet and ftp are uncommented (lack a # at the beginning of the line). Also check to see if telnetd and ftpd (wu, pro, or the million others) are actually installed. |
