Hello,
I have linux Mandrake 7.1 when I login, I am using run-level 5. But still I cannot get kde or x-windows to starup. From the command prompt how do I start x-windows? pls help. thanks a lot. |

This might imply you have no working X-server configuration. Are you able to log in as root and start X with the command 'X' <enter>? (kill it with ctrl+alt+backspace) If so, here's a list of things to check:
- Have you installed a display manager? (gdm, kdm or xdm) - Does init know you want to start X in runlevel 5? (last lines of /etc/inittab) - I'm not that familiar with Mandrake, but RedHat has a Preferred Windowmanager option which also tells what display manager to start. This can be changed somwhere in /etc/sysconfig/ Good luck! Ingvar |
