Does anyone know of any good (stable, fast, effective) multimedia players for Linux, that aren't impossible to install?

Having recently converted from Windows I am looking for a Windows Media Player replacement.

Any help would be great,

Ewan.

XMMS - this is good for audio. You need to get the mp3 plug-in

I have managed to also get realplayer working but this is a bit more difficult. There is also the codec for video on their site.

just my little bit. I'm sure there is a lot more but this is what use at the moment.

Cheers

Mplayer ( http://www.mplayerhq.hu/ ) compiled with Windows Media, Real Player, Mpeg, DivX, DVD, VCD, AVI, MP3, and other support is very good...combine it with a good plug-in like mozplugger ( http://mozplugger.mozdev.org/ ) and you can play almost everything that can be done with realone and windows media player. In order to use this to it's fullest, you really have to compile it from the CVS version.

Also very good is VLC ( http://www.videolan.org ). It does mpeg, dvd, vcd, avi, etc ...it doesn't do Windows Media or RealOne stuff.

XMMS
