Ok!

I am running red hat 9...
the boot loader i have 2 options, one i guessed would be to startup rh without the gnome x...i was wrong, they both start the gnome x up. So now i need to install a new theme and all that, and i cant get the X to stay dead.
There is some file i need to modify, its rc.conf, or rd.conf, or something. I tried to run setup from the console, i can see a list of services that are started up when i start rh, but i dont see anything related to the X (well atleast i dont think so..)
All i really want to do, kill the x, so i can change my theme....

(if i ctrl+alt+bckspace the x just restarts)

erf

any help would really be great, i feel like i am fumbling in the dark here..

Open up /etc/inittab and change:

id:5:initdefault:

to

id:3:initdefault:

and then reboot.
