Hello I am trying to install ethereal on mandrake 9.1 and i am having problems. If i try to install via rpm i get an error about libel.so.1 and it aborts. if i try and install from the tarball. i get this error

*** The gtk-config script installed by GTK could not be found
*** If GTK was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GTK_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to gtk-config.
checking for glib-config... no
checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.0... no
*** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found
*** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to glib-config.

i know that gtk and glib are somewhere on my computer, how do i tell the configure command where they are? sad.gif

To find out about any parameters that configure will take, pass the "--help" to it.

Chances are, you'll have to do something like ./configure --with-gtk-libs=/usr/local/lib --with-gtk-includes.....etc etc.

Without using the configure, try running gtk-config in your console to see if it runs, if it doesn't, then you'll need to install the gtk and glib development package. gtk-config should be in your $PATH.
