I'm looking for a mail server running under [RedHat] Linux that can provide SMTP and POP3 services for clients on the network. I've installed Exim 4.20 and read the manual, but am having no luck getting it to work.

Some clients may be Outlook, Pegasus, Eudora etc. running under Win, so I'm trying to access my account with Outlook. It would appear that nothing is listening on the Linux server ports 25 or 110.

I'm certain what I am trying to do is standard fare in so many small business situations.

Since there is a single config file, I'm hoping someone might be able to send me an example config that works with the following attributes:
- supplies SMTP and POP3 services to local clients
- interfaces (relays?) messages to/from ISP via douter on dedicated line

There may also be an aspect of running exim under Linux that I've overlooked (e.g. how does it interface to xinetd which is monitoring the IP ports?)

Any help will be very gratefully accepted.

Why not just install the sendmail RPM and use that.
