Hey all,
I've got a problem whereby one of the shares on my Redhat6.2 box doesn't work. Here are the results when I run testparm.

[root@menet /]# testparm
Load smb config files from /etc/smb.conf

Ignoring unknown parameter "vaild users"
Loaded services file OK.
WARNING: You have some share names that are longer than 8 chars

It's the IT share that isn't working at the moment. The ITTEST share is one that I set up whilst trying to troubleshoot the problem, it doesn't work either. All other shares seem to work fine.

Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Gareth

Well it appears that you fixed the misspelling of valid cause it doesn't exist anymore.

The ittest share is missing too. So its hard to see what you have done since your config file doesn't match the description of the problem.

The only thing I can guess is that since the it share is similar to everything else that appears to work is if the IT group is valid and since linux is case sensitive is it really IT and not it? Do you have proper permissions on the /home/data/it diretory?

Thanks for the prompt reply.

As far as I'm aware there is/was no misspelling of valid? I certainly haven't corrected it, so it seems strange that I'm getting that error message.

My apologies for the inconsistencies, it seems that I did in fact remove the ITTEST share from smb.conf.

The IT group is definately in upper case and it does have permission to access the share and I'm a member of the group.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers,

Gareth

So what isn't working about the share?

Look at the samba log files for any clues

/var/log/samba
