I have a redhat firewall running iptables. Our external interface is connected to a cable modem. Occasionally when the cable service goes down we lose not only internet service but all other services (Samba, Mail etc..) behind the firewall. I have tried adding mail server, samba server etc.. to windows client hosts file but I still have the same issue. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

What is your networking configuration? Do you have one PC for the server and firewall?

Have you looked at the logs for samba, messages etc. Any clues there?
