Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

I have a long running php process that is launched through an on-line interface which I can close after the process starts and the process continues running, it takes approximately 7 hours to run. The last command in the program is an exit command, because if I don't have that command there it begins again.
So it completes, but the pid shows it as active in the system up to 10 hrs after it completed, then the pid disappears..
1) Why does it keep looping if I don't have the exit command?
2) Is the PID still active because I have the exit command?

Without knowing anything about your process it is impossible to say why it loops or why it stays active
