My xp/linux machine, the xp won't boot...

the commmands for booting dos to load xp in grub is

rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
i have tried chaning but (hd0,0) to a harddrive which i think is correct bur it just goes to a black screen with

rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
that printed in white text... and just sits there. Please help...

I don't know much about grub. But the longer i'm here the more problems I hear about grub.

Have you had grub running okay before?

Have you tried using lilo?
