i want to set up a counter strike server, but i need to install halflife server on my server first. My server is redhat 9. The files is from file planet...http://www.fileplanet.com/files/50000/58368.shtml, it is a bin file.

you see that ls-l says that the file is 777

-rwxrwxrwx 1 baloo6969 500 3772416 Jun 12 18:32 hlds_l_3111_full.bin

at the command line i type and i get...

Metallica ME$ sh hlds_l_3111_full.bin
hlds_l_3111_full.bin: hlds_l_3111_full.bin: cannot execute binary file

what do i do?
the counter strike files are .tar files...no problem, but the .bin is killing me

bin files are tricky from time to time.

As root, make sure it's set executable (which it looks like it is according to your permission settings)

chmod +x hlds_l_3111_full.bin

Then execute the binary from it's directory with

./hlds_l_3111_full.bin

Sometimes "sh" will work for *.bin files, but more often then not, "sh" will usually work with *.sh files.

um, well, that's a new error. It's possible that either the file is corrupted, or you may not have enough memory to run the binary, which I would find hard to believe. I'm stumped.
