Whats this Lie-nix Thing?

So I have a VPS with the most barebones installation of Slackware imaginable. In fact, I'm pretty sure there wasn't a single package that could have been removed without making it unbootable when I first set it up.

So there's no mail daemons of any kind installed.

All I want to do is set up an MTA to receive mail and direct it into /var/spool/mail so that it can be read in pine by shell users. That's it. Nothing else.

Can't find a single tutorial that covers this simple bit. Anybody?
