I have mandrake linux 9.0 . I need to know how to install downloads after i have saved them to a file.Sorry this system is a little complicated for me right now.Thanks.

I would suggest trying

"apt-get install <package>" this installs <package>.

Let me know if this helps (or not as the case may be)

What kind of files did you download RPM or tgz, etc.

To uncompress a tgz
tar -zxvf <Filename>.tgz.
cd <filenamedir>

There probably is a readme file that explains how to install the software package.
