My few months old Toshiba Satellite (CV50-A-1DV) won't boot from a cd/dvd, so I can't boot from a live cd. I have looked through the pdf user manual - no luck and on the Toshiba support site where someone is talking about updating the bios. Can any one help me with this problem? seems bad that i have to update the bios just to boot from a cd.

Is this a known good bootable disk?
How did you create the disk? What operating system, what application did you use, if any? Not knowing your knowledge level I will start from scratch. Look at the contents of the disk. If all you see is a single file then the disk was not burned correctly. If you extracted the files before burning it was not created correctly. It must be burned as an image. |

please look at the cd/dvd you are using for the bootup process.

There might be some problem in the cd/dvd due to this the your device is not starting or loading the bootup files.
