With the drive unmounted make sure the permissions for /mnt/cardreader are set for read/write.
Then remount the drive.

BTW is this as a regular user or as root?

Ok lets try this all over again

/dev/sda1 /mnt/cardreader vfat rw,noauto,umask=000,users 0 0

that is what it looks like in my fstab

When i try to mount what is in my fstab i get this

[root@localhost /]# mount -a
mount: mount point 0 does not exist
[root@localhost /]#

i am trying to mount in a user profile

the website of mrtg says to use the cfgmaker with these commands

cfgmaker --global 'WorkDir: /home/httpd/mrtg'
--global 'Options[_]: bits,growright'
--output /home/mrtg/cfg/mrtg.cfg
community@router.abc.xyz

However i do not have a /home/httd or a /home/mrtg i do have httpd service started and running but thats it.
Do i need to make them? also whats up with the community@router.abc.xyz thing? what should that be?
Apache is looking in /var/www for me

I am trying to install a game that was made for windows using WINE
However when i type wine setup.exe it pulls up the installer and works however it crashes soon after. There are a hand full of .DLL files and such that are needed for the install to work. How do i get the installer to see the other files?

It would definitely be possible to write a bash script, but the problem you would have with that is that it would either a) have to constantly be running or cool.gif be running on a regular time schedual.

One of the simple ways to do it would be to just shut it down remotely via SSH.

Putty, which is a free windows ssh client is just a exe file, wouldn't need to be installed. I have it on my pen drive and I can just run it off there. Plug it into any body's computer, and i can log onto my box and my mac from anywhere. Of course you need to know your ip address or have a domain name, and have access to a computer. But that might be an easier way to do it.

The best way though, is to just have a UPS because that not only alows your computer time to shutdown right, but protects if from a surge that usually comes when the power goes out.

Have contab running would work but what if you couldnt get to it remotely.. yes UPS would work but wasnt a bad idea

Can i move it or delete it and reinstall it in a different place? if so where can i install it? i want to install it some place that all my usrs will have access to it.

is there a general placec that you install programs for all users to access it?

I've only used poptop because it is really simple for MS clients to connect to the server. No experience with the others. My choice would be openvpn.

You know anything with a GUI? i can handle command line like openvnc just wondering

Making the icon is pretty easy, though I can't exactly remember how to do it.

What you want to do is add a line to /etc/fstab that has all the info in it. The line should look something like this.

/dev/sda1 /mnt/cardreader auto rw,noauto,users 0 0

that will mount the device /dev/sda1 to /mnt/cardreader with auto determined filesystem (you could put in vfat if it gives you trouble) as a read write system, not automatically at boot (as it won't always be there) and allow users to mount and unmount it. Don't worry about the 0 0, just leave it there.

If you add that you should just me able to type mount /mnt/cardreader as a user and get your files.

As for creating a desk top icon, I know you can, but I am not at a linux box right now, fidle around with it. It should be under the right click menu in KDE and GNOME.

Thanks you are great

MOTHER is not a command. Ok, try mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/cardreader that might do it.

Your system sees it.
CODE
...
USB Mass Storage device found at 2
usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
USB Mass Storage support registered.
...

So its just a matter of getting it mounted. Try using vfat instead of auto. And you had the right idea with switching up the numbers and letters. You can't change into the /dev/device folders because they aren't really folders, at least not the type you can navigate into.

Hey that got it sweet thanks man
Any way to make a script i can just run like ./cardreader that will run that for me when i put the card in?
Also a way to make a ICON on the Desktop or in the Computer area?

How about an UPS ( I prefer APC). Its conects via USB or the serial port and can shutdown the PC in case of a power interruption. Do you get frequent power outages where you live? Where I live a 15 MPH wind is a light breeze smile.gif.

For services that put out a warning signal like the National Weather Service you could possibly tie in a signal to the computer to shutdown whenever there is an alert.

Yeah we could use a UPS but still it would be kinda cool to have.
No we dont in Nashville just thinking it

Well i was thinking today while watching TV it started to storm pretty good power almost went out. We know linux hates when you dont shut down correctly. I was thinking lets say we are away some place and it starts to storm like a mofo it would be nice if a program was always running that would check the weather in the area. Once the weather gets bad (User definable) linux would auto shutdown. Lets say if the weather was Thunder Storm and winds of 15mph it would shut down by its self.
