I reckon I'm having the same problem, but with Mandrake 9.2. I've got an Intel 82865G graphics card (on a Dell machine) which i don't think is listed in the x-server console. consequence is, when I choose anything other than an 800X640 resolution, the desktop is twice the size of my screen. I thought about switching distros, but suse 9.2 wont even load YASTe properly (lot of black pannels that should be telling me about the installation procedure). I'm told I might need to find a specific driver for the card, which I guess you do too, but hell knows where!

Any thoughts from the experts out there?

I've got two hard drives; mandrake 9.2 on hda and xp on hdb, the partitions are still in their automatically configured states (3 linux on hda and two ntfs on hdb). Lilo reckons it should be booting to hdb2 when it trys for xp, but finds an error 0x04.

Here's the lilo.conf file that might be useful, anything you find will be really appreciated; I simply get lost in this kind of script analysis!

boot=/dev/hda
vga=normal
default="linux"
keytable=/boot/uk.klt
prompt
nowarn
timeout=300
message=/boot/message
menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label="linux"
root=/dev/hda1
initrd=/boot/initrd.img
append="devfs=mount splash=silent splash=silent splash=silent hdc=ide-scsi acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5 splash=silent"
vga=788
read-only
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label="linux-nonfb"
root=/dev/hda1
initrd=/boot/initrd.img
append="devfs=mount splash=silent splash=silent splash=silent hdc=ide-scsi acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5"
read-only
other=/dev/fd0
label="floppy"
unsafe
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label="failsafe"
root=/dev/hda1
initrd=/boot/initrd.img
append="failsafe devfs=nomount splash=silent splash=silent splash=silent hdc=ide-scsi acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5"
read-only
other=/dev/hdb2
label="windows"
table=/dev/hdb
map-drive=0x80
to=0x81
map-drive=0x81
to=0x80

cheers again for any help!

after reinstalling the duel bootloader (lilo) it all works fine for booting mandrake 9.2, but when I ask it to boot XP it comes up with error 0x04. I understand this is a fairly common problem, but I am yet to find/understand a solution. Anyone done it already?

I installed Madrake 9.2 along side XP (on different hard drives) and followed the install prtocols for doing so. But I was given no info about the boot loader. Assumed it was automatic, but on reboot I got a message: L 07 07 07 07 ... and no bootloader or anything. Compter froze. Wasn't given the option to create a boot disk either. Does this mean I 've got a dud? Thought that didn't happen with Linux! Any way round it apart from re-scripting the windows boot loader? Cheers for any help!
