I have tried to install mplayer using rpmdrake but it won't because of this message:

Sorry the following package(s) can't be selected:

mplayer-1.0-0.pre3.13.100mdk.i586(due to unsatisified liblzo.so.1)

I have been experiencing the "unsatisfied" while trying to install different packages. What does that mean. Can I correct it.

Thanks

I found another forum with kind of the same problem. I tried to "urpmi cups" in konsole. I received this error message:

Some package requested cannot be installed:
cups-1.1.20-5.3.100mdk.i586 (due to missing cups-common-1.1.20-5.3.100mdk.i586)
cups-common-1.1.20-5.3.100mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied libslp.so.1) (Y/n)

Any ideas on this??

Thanks

Thanks for the reply but I don't understand what you mean by --/etc/inet.d/ -- Could you give me more detailed instruction. I am so new to this linux idea that I don't understand it quite yet. One thing I failed to mention that might make a difference is that the printer is hooked up through my ZIP drive. The zip drive is parallel so I plugged the printer cable into the back of the zip drive. The zip drive then in turn plugs into the parallel port on the back side of the pc. I don't know if that matters but it might be important. Thanks for any information

I am installing a HP Office Jet. It is parallel port. I use Mandrake 10.0. I am unable to get it to install. The computer finds the printer but there are errors regarding the cups server. The error is:

Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager:
Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: connection refused.

Any ideas. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. Right now the computer is working great. Haven't had to restart it for awhile now. When I do have to restart, if it does it again, I will put in those lines and wait and see. Thanks for all your help

Just wondering if this means anything. First of all when I reboot it takes a few times to boot up. I run into problems while loading and then it will restart. Says that it has to system integrity and does then finds errors and asks me if I want to correct them. It will load to console mode, I type "startx" and it will not load. I restart it and it will be fine. Sometimes, no problem on boot up. I do receive this message though when the desktop appears:

Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'devices'.

Does that mean anything. If not, ok. If so, how do I correct it.

Thanks

I am running Mandrake 10.0 official.

Well, first of all I don't know I did something wrong. I had to reinstall Mandrake 10.0 after it wouldn't boot anymore. It took me 2 days to get it to install because the computer would freeze up during install. I figured out possibly that was because of a damaged file that was on the CD. It did install and when it loaded for the first time it asked for my login/password like it was in the console. I entered it-thinking it would load to desktop but it is console mode. It is at the command line now--[root@localhost ####]# Did I do something wrong or is there a command I type to get it to load up to desktop? Thanks from the new guy.

I downloaded the Helix player from https://player.helixcommunity.org/ and I did it from the shell console. Once the file is downloaded I don't know what to type to "unzip" it (if that is correct). and then what to type to install it. I did it as a root user. Help. Thanks from the new guy.

I am not sure if I was doing it as a root. I opened the files up in a window and tried to drag and drop to copy them. I am guessing I can do in the shell console. If so, how do I do it. I am so new to Mandrake(linux) I don't really know what I am doing. I can do windows but not this one(yet).

Another way to install Flashplayer is to copy two files to the plugins folder in Mozilla 1.6 if I have read it correctly. This is the message I get. is there a way around it or a command I have to type to gain access. Thanks for any help

Access Denied
Could not write to /usr/lib/mozilla-1.6/plugins/flashplayer.xpt.part

If I read the directions right, I should be able to copy two files to the folder.

OK, after some trial and error and no clue how I did it, it started to install. I get to this and don't know what to type- I am not sure of the path. Any ideas----
Please enter the installation path of the Mozilla, Netscape,
or Opera browser (i.e., /usr/lib/mozilla):

I typed -- fordno1/lib/mozilla and get this message

WARNING: /fordno1/lib/mozilla is not a directory.

I know I am typing something wrong. Can you help.

Thanks!! biggrin.gif

This is the install directions. I am alittle confused about it. I do it from the shell and I get the message: bash: ./flashplayer-installer: No such file or directory.--- Any instructions/info/help is greatly appreciated by this newby to Mandrake 10.0.

This installer is script-based and cannot be run from a GUI.

- Uncompress install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz. A directory called install_flash_player_7_linux is created. Navigate to this directory.

- From the command line, type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer. The installer will instruct you to shut down your browser(s).

Don't be surprised if you see other posts from me as I learn how to use this program. The next one will be in regards to installing Fllashplayer 7. Talk to you all later.
