Hi,
which version of RedHat linux do you have on your computer? Retrieving the passwd is easy what you need to do is boot the system in to the single user mode and then type the command passwd.
Once you do that the system will ask you to enter the new passwd and the new passwd will come in to immediate effect.

bye

hi,
did u have a look at the inittab file? Do you see that the default login is graphical (ie.. 5)? If the computer is booting on to the terminal try to run the command " init 5 ". That will boot the system to the graphical mode(for the current session only !!!) . Just try this....

hi,
According to the details you provided, just have a look at the last line here :-
=======================================================================
=======================================================================
# Default runlevel. The runlevels used by Mandrakelinux are:
# 0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
# 1 - Single user mode
# 2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)
# 3 - Full multiuser mode
# 4 - unused
# 5 - X11
# 6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
#
id:3:initdefault:
=======================================================================
=======================================================================

just change the "id:3:initdefault: " to "id:5:initdefault:" and that will do the trick :-) !!!

In the current case the computer is booting to init 3( text mode), if you change this to 5 then it will start booting to graphical mode.

Hi,
By any chance, have you changed the default login to text mode? If yes then you may need to change it back to graphical mode.
just try to check the default login mode under the inittab file and see what is the default login mode.

When you do startx the xclient is run from the terminal itself. That is why that you are returning back to the terminal itself after you log out.

bye,

Hi,
Since you are looking forward to reconfigure the system from scratch, install the windows os first and then using the rescue disk configure boot for linux.

I am trying to configure the pop and imap with ssl (pop3s and imaps with sendmail) but iam not getting successful. Iam using RHEL-3. can you help me with this configuration.

I tried to configure sendmail without ssl and it works fine. i tried to configure imaps and pop3s, and it stops working. The client gives me a message saying that the server is not configured as a secure server.

i have installed the openssl rpm, imap2002 rpm, sendmail.cf rpm. I have edited the configuration files but iam unsuccessful.I need some advice about how i can configure secure pop and imap.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,
I believe that you are trying to install the grub on a different part of the hard disk drive.
just execute the command grub-install /dev/partition(place where you have the second MBR). well the command i said works with redhat linux !!!

hi,
As i understand you want to keep the windows os as the default operating system on your computer. Just have a look at your grub.conf file where you see:

default 0 change '0' to '1' and that will do the trick.

Thanks,
Rathish.K

QUOTE (DS2K3 @ Apr 4 2005, 09:54 AM)
So what wont it do? (Anything?)

How did you inttall the software?

Aslo, it isnt a good idea to post your email address on forums. Firstly, it leaves it open to SPAM bots, secondly, and advice you are given via email, cant be used as a reference by other people.

D

i have installed the openssl rpm, imap2002 rpm, sendmail.cf rpm. I have edited the configuration files but iam unsuccessful.I need some advice about how i can configure secure pop and imap.

I made disable property in imap(/ to yes. I edited the /etc/xinetd.d/imaps and put the disable to no. I restarted the xinetd by "service xinetd restart".

I have tried to create a certificate and it asked me a few questions. I filled up every thing and in the end i tried to send mails using a client comp(after making the setting to always secure), it did not work. It says that the server is not having he settings to be a secure server. I try sending mails in non secure way and it works.

Please help me with this issue so that i will be able to configure the secure sendmail.

Thanks a lot,
Rathish.k
