I have an analog cable from the cd player to the sound card and still no sound. I have to enable digital output to get a cd to play. all other sounds work fine.

Open terminal:

su -
enter password
then: yum -y update
that should fix it
yum is the command line of what you are doing from xwindows
yum is much faster
check out fedorafaq.org for a superfast yum.conf file using mirrors

First we have to start with what format are the drives?

All have to do with your fstab file in /etc:

Fat32=
Add- /dev/hd?? /mountpoint vfat umask=000 0 0
where?? is is hd number and mountpoint is where you want the drive to appear on the file system

My fat in fstab
/dev/hdb1 /netdrive vfat umask=000 0 0

NTFS=
there is a special program to read ntfs filesystems its called kernel-ntfs-<version>
install that and then the same for fat32

example:
/dev/hd?? /mointpoint ntfs umask=000 0 0

kernel-ntfs availible at linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net

Good luck
