Yeah it's from stephen kings dark tower series smile.gif

To make a long story short, the machine was running fedora core 2, I tried to use yum to upgrade to fedora core 3 and then to fedora core 4.... it didn't go too well.

Debian is now on the machine. smile.gif

Linux Help will be brought down for maintenance tonight and will be offline/unavailable for several hours starting around 8pm eastern time. Things should be up and running again around 12am.

Thanks

How are you installing the new mysql/php packages? Compiling them from source or via RPM?

Do you have a port scanning utility like nmap? If so, run it against the local box and see if mysql is listening on a port or not

Also if you're using Cable make sure your ISP actually allows you to run servers. Most of the cable providers here in Ontario do not permit it.

Do you know if you have an audio cable coming out of the back of the cdrom drive and plugging into the sound card?

Windows seems to somehow work without this cable but Linux does not.

Did you download RPM files or tar.gz files?

To remove the RPM ones you would run rpm -e package (ie rpm -e httpd; rpm -e php). You can get a list of installed packages by running rpm -qa |more

It's been quite a while since I set up printing in linux but is the cups daemon running? You should be able to start it from /etc/inet.d/

Santa was really good to me this year.

So far I've gotten a compound mitre saw, shop vac, set of chisels, columbo dvd set, a book and a few other things. I haven't seen my mom yet but I think she has a few more power tools for me.

How about yourself?

Hi All!

With the Holiday Season just around the corner everyone has been really busy. I'd like to ask that you please be patient with the response times to your requests for help.

On a side note, for those of you who have received help here in the past, why not stick around and see if you can answer some of the questions posted by the newer members on the board? Right now, we would really appreciate every little bit of help that you can give.

Thanks and please have a safe and happy holiday!

Do you have physical access to your web server? What happens when you reboot it, any errors etc? Can you manually restart apache/httpd once the machine reboots?
