Cheers for that...

I have now had a little look around, I have configured the Suse firewall... however I have removed Suse and gone Mdk 10... I must say it is a very nice OS.

Thanks again

Hi,

While using my Suse 9 linux last night I had a mysterious occurence... Quicktime (running via cxplugin) opened itself and then tried to run one of my quicktime files which has now changed it's name to Filename_copy_01... also Quicktime no longer works it just freezes.

Was this a Hacker related problem or is to do with cxplugin?

please help as I am no longer going to use linux if hackers are getting such easy access to my pc.... also is it possible to install a firewall, as the options in suse seem to be for a server, which is not what I am doing...

Also, how do I put my Grub bootloader back onto the pc... I removed it by fdisk /mbr in my panic last night...

please help

cheers

Hi,

Having now all but switched to Linux, I have become very frustrated with im on Linux.... I currently use Suse 9.0 (updated) and have had few real problems.

However no matter what I do I cannot get aim to work.... every time I run the /usr/bin/aim I keep getting the following msg - relocation error: /usr/bin/aim: undefined symbol: __Q24XPRT5TBstr

For the eck of me what is this??

I have tried using Kopete and gaim but I have had nothing but file transfer problems, so thought maybe aim would do the trick, can anyone please help. (I am using Gnome desktop btw)

Looking forward to any help offered, cheers

Hi guys....

Hi re-installed Suse 9.0 completed the online update (assuming it took me upto 9.2) it's great, I have managed to intall Firefox and configure my QT and flash settings very easily... Also I have managed to use the include Scumm prog to play Curse of Monkey which is great...

I only hope other users have the same impression..... Does anyone have any idea how to send and recieve files using Gaim0.7?

I am now very close to switching to Suse instead of using WinXP

speak soon

Hi,

Along with my Firewall quest, I have come across another gem of a Linux program K3b.. excellent, even better than my old Nero from XP.

However I am trying to install the newest Mandrake rpm using the rpm -i filename in a console as root

then it gives me this

error: Failed dependencies:
devel(libart_lgpl_2) is needed by k3b-0.11.4-db

Does anybody know what I need to install and where to get it from, I have seen some k3b dependency rpm's but it says they are for Debian...??

Please can somebody help with this... I am still quite a newb and anytime I get stuff like this, even with looking on the net for answers I normally get very bafled.

Cheers Guys

Hi,

Cheers for that help... I will try and wade my way through that wink.gif
It looks very informative, so me thinks I need a little time to get to grips with this. Again thanks, and I will keep you posted of my progress.

Bye the way, just to say of all the Forums I've checked out this is by far the most helpfull so far... or it could be that my questions are a little dumb sometimes....

Either way, I am soooo pleased I joined the Linux community and look forward to ridding my system of M$ very soon!!

Hi,

Having gotten Mandrake 9.2 running pretty well with gnome, I am starting to get into Linux in a big way. However I am concerned that my computer is not as protected as it could be.

I am connecting to the net with always on adsl using eth0, When I installed Mandrake I tried to set-up my firewall, but got quite confused and just left it at the default (allow all connections). Having previously used Norton Internet Sec. on my dual boot sys, I am having great difficulty in trying to figure this out with Linux.

I have checked quite a few sites, and yet it still all baffles me a bit.

Can anybody help with either how I set the firewall up or if there is a good gui style (aka Norton type) system that I could use?

I would be very grateful for any help offered.

(I've gone a whole week without going near XP and that is something I thought would never happen)

Cheers

Hi,

Having given SuSe 9 and Drake 9.2 a good run out, I have decided to stick with Suse, and all is going ok with the system. biggrin.gif

However does anybody know how to reduce the size of the desktop icons? I have been trying to do this for a few days and cannot find anywhere that lets me do it.

Also, adding programs to the KDE menu.. any ideas?

I'm using SuSe 9.0 with KDE

Cheers for any help.

Thank you so much for all your help, I will no doubt be back here... but for now.. excellent!!!

Hi,

Cheers for the advice, I have been trying to do this, however I (for some reason) still have this problem...

When using the control centre, I should be chosing the adsl connection wizard correct?
Then chosing connect via eth0?

I really am stuggling with this for some reason, I know it should work... but aghh... I am off to try it again and will post with an update. Cheers

thanks again

Any advice with Mandrake, I had tried what you suggested previously on SuSe, however it did not work.

Cheers and thanks for your help.

(Have posted on Linux Forum also)

Hi,

I just bought a new ethernet modem (having given up on my BT Voyager USB and no success with eciadsl).

It is a Binatone ethernet broadband modem (adsl2000, which claims to be combatible with all os).... Suse 9.0 see's my network card (10/100 Mbps Ethernet), however I have tried to configure the modem, but nothing.. it keeps telling me it cannot connect...

How do I do this, how do I configure my modem to run, I thought ethernet would solve my modem probs... ???
Sorry to sound like this but I've been trying really hard to get my old 56k and Voyager adsl working with no joy... and now this... I feel like I'm plagued with Linux...

Which is a shame because it looks and uses much better than WinDoze.... please help...

Thanks

Hi,

I recently installed suse 9.0 everything is pretty much ok, am working on my printer and modem config at the mo.

However I have noticed a really strange thing, whenever I run a prog with sound (ie xmms) and quit then run say Quake III Arena the sound does not work.

Vice versa, if I run QIIIA on first booting the sound works, but then it does not with other audio programs.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help offered.
