Hi,

I am trying to install a benchmark on my clic cluster and am having a problem. one of the things i need to type in is cp /usr/share/doc/OpenPBS-client-2.3.16/para_job_pbs.sh I type it in and the computer says cp: missing destination file. I am not sure what to do, and since i am fairly new to linux i am a little confused. Someone plz tell me what to type in or something! I only have a few days to get this benchmark to work sad.gif

Hi,

I am trying to setup a cluster with three computers using the clic software built on mandrake 9.0. I am having some trouble with it and their mailing list archives and documentation isn't helping, so i need someone's help and/or opinion. 1st question: what should the host names of the nodes and server be (or should they be the same)? 2nd: what should the dns, the gateway, and the ip address for the nodes and server be? 3rd: should my boot rom chips be 32k or 64k? 4th: in the documentation it says they reccomend you do a network install bu booting to pxe. when i tried that it displayed a little info, said it had a timeout, and shut off after about 15 seconds. what do i need to do for a network install. 5th: another option for install is cd. i install the software and run the setup command, then what? 6th: with the network cards i have there is a floppy. I was told to put in a dos floppy, boot to that, switch it out and configure stuff. there is a package called linux.zip on the floppy. Is that importiant to the cluster? also, i can't unzip it with my dos boot disk. anyone know where i can get one or is there another way? Also, i don't think it would work, but doews anyone know if i could take the clic files and put them on redhat 9? i just like redhat a lot a would like to do it with that.... if i could. and finally, am i going about this the wrong way and is there a faster and easier alternative then clic that is easy to do? I have about 6 days to set this up, and need some assistance!!

thanks

hi

I am trying to install OSCAR on mandrake to install my cluster. I get to the part where it says to build oscar client image and i press it and it says it failed. the instructions say to check the ssh dameon's configuration file and see that PermitRootLogin is set to yes. I type in the command in a terminal but it says permission denied. It also says for me to check /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny to see that the TCP wrapper settings are not set to "too light." Both of these say permission denied. The oscar software is on mandrake 9.2 (the oscar version is 3.0). I really need someone to help me or give me a website with the answer. Also for your informaiton i am a big newbie and really need some help!

thanks

My name is Andrew Powell and I am currently seeking computer advice. Right now I am constructing a cluster out of three computers and hope to make them come together with parallel computing. Each computer is 3 GHz and my goal is to make them run together at 9GHz. I am using Clic software built on Linux Mandrake 9.0. The computers each have a MSI K4 motherboard, a Western Digital 30Gb IDE hard drive, NVIDIA Ge Force Fx 5200 graphics cards, and a network card with PXE boot rom chips. During the cluster setup process I have encountered a problem. In the terminal I typed in “setup_auto_cluster” and the computer began installing the files for my cluster. It took me through the installation process on the master and when it finished a screen came up that said the computer was now waiting for the nodes to boot up. It said that the PXE should be the first device on the boot sequence and when it started up the nodes would be detected. However, I booted up the nodes and nothing happened. I purchased the network cards with the boot rom chips so it would boot to the network first. But there is no choice in the Bios to choose the network. The cards are Linux compatible and the boot rom chips came with a disk but I cannot get the computer to read from the disk and install the software I probably need to boot to the network first. I am stuck and really need some advice. I have a second network card on the motherboard but it is small and doesn’t have boot rom. I have the proper Ethernet switch for my computers and I have also checked in the integrated peripherals section of the bios but there is no network related things there. I am not sure if there is am easier way, if there is some other software I need, or if I should get a different operating system. I am wondering if anyone can be of assistance. I am stuck right now and trying to fight a deadline. Thank you for your time.

I am a newbie and cannot get the linux to install the software on the cd to the computer. the network card is linux compatible and i need to be able to have a pxe boot first on my boot sequencey because i need to boot to the network first (i am setting up a cluster). ANY HELP AT ALL would be greatly appreciated, even if you have an idea but you're not sure about it tell me! I am in high school and trying to build a cluster for science fair and i am in a fix! Hi,

during the install of my cluster it said "now collecting MAC address of first node." it also said that pxe should be the first boot entry of your bios. I am extremely new to linux. I understand the bios, but do now understand the pxe thing. I am having trouble figuring out how to make the pxe boot first on the node. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please remember that i am new to linux and more step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

I recently downloaded the Clic Mandrake software from the internet and put it on a disk and itstalled it. The installation went well and it told it it boot Lilo with graphical menu. However, when it boots it gives me a text menu and i can't get it to show me a graphical menu anywhere. i tried to open userdrake an the command line but a message came up saying Gtk-warning **: cannot open display: I then typed in adduserNis.pl into the command line and tried to enter a new username but it wouldn't let me. When the machine boots up it says the GANGLIA monitor scripts are ok but i remember seeing them in some error, and when the machine powers down it says Stopping display manager [FAILED]. I don't know what to do since i am a newbie but first i switched the monitor and that didn't help. during the install every resolution setting i try and push the test button it says an error ocurred and can't test. i am really stuck on this and any help at all would greatly be appreciated. even if you have an idea but not sure it will work tell me! Keep in mind everything i did (except the install) was done on the command line.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi,

I am trying to install mandrake on my computer but when i get to the part when it is supposed to open DiskDrake it says "no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems" the instructions i have say that diskdrake is supposed to open at that time and allow me to create partitions (windows 2000 is running on the computer now but diskdrake is supposed to let me delete it). Do i need a driver from somewhere, and if so where can i get it? or di i need something else. I am somewhat of a newbie so more step-by step instructions would be greatly apperciated

Thanks,
andrew

hi,

I am trying to install Mandrake linux but have a problem. when the installation gets to the part where it sets up the filesystems, it says "no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems" I was hoping that the DiskDrake would run then like the instructions say but it doesn't. Right now the computer is running Windows 2000 but the instructions say the DiskDrake should run then and i would be able to get rid of that

Thanks,

Hello,
I am new to linux and really could use some help. I want to set up a cluster (the type i believe is a paralell computing cluster, or the type that makes the clustered computers work together to increase the speed. I heard you can do this with mandrake so i downloaded it but need some help. my one master two node cluster is currently running windows 2000, but i need linux to give me the speed boost (each comp is 3GHz, so i am shooting for 9GHz). I know you can do it with linux but the thing is i need to be running linux and windows simultaneously so i can have the fast speed with linux and be using windows to run everyday programs (games, etc.). I am just not sure how to do it. Do i partition the hard drive, i heard about a program called VMware, am i using the right kind of linux for this, how can i make the 2 operating systems run at the same time?!? I am a newbie, so more basic explanations will be greatly appreciated. I am fighting a fast approaching deadline and am feeling trapped! Thank you for your time
