me and a friend are thinking about switching from Fedora to Mandrake Discovery 9.2 (or latest applicable) because we've heard stuff bout fedora, like its not very stable and has messy coding. Is this advised. Lets say "hypotheticly" that i was gettin both for free, which would i choose? i already have a Fedora/XP comp, i wanna switch the fedora to mandrake
BUT i went through bloody hell gettin into fedora, is it going to be as hard with discovery 9.2? If i do get Discovery 9.2, will i be able to customize it as much as i want, as much as other very customizable ones? Is the gui easy to use and everything? plz help
thanks!

ok, i've tried to install XINE and XMMS but both times in the install file it says "cd" to the directory, then type
CODE
./configure

then it says to enter
CODE
make

followed bye
CODE
make install

when i enter
CODE
make

CODE
[cgbd@h**-**-**-** xine-lib-1-rc3a]$ make
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found.  Stop.
[cgbd@h**-**-**-** xine-lib-1-rc3a]$

and when i try
CODE
make install
it says
CODE
[cgbd@h**-**-**-** xine-lib-1-rc3a]$ make install
make: *** No rule to make target `install'.  Stop.
[cgbd@h**-**-**-** xine-lib-1-rc3a]$

whats wrong and how do i fix it?

Disk /dev/hda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

CODE
Device     Boot    Start     End    Blocks          ID    System
/dev/hda1           2838   9729   55359958+    17     Hidden HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda2   *      14      2837    22683748+    83    Linux
/dev/hda3           1       13       104391          82    Linux Swap

Partition table entries are not in disk order

I didn't include all the drives, just 1, the other is a music hard drive for music (1.2 gigs) and the third is a USB removable drive(128 megs)

xp is on /dev/hda1
linux is on /dev/hda2
linux swap is /dev/hda3

Also, i want xp and llinux to be bootable from GRUB which is what i installed on fedora

also, i have 524 megs of ram, but i made my swap 110 megs... will that downgrade performance? ifso, how can i fix it?

point out, i did the formating with partiton magic.

i have also posted this message in linuxforum.com, but havn't gotten a response, and its very urgent.
I'm going to copy and paste
Thank You

POSTED FEB 14

ok, i have 1 harddrive
it has windows xp
i used Partition Magic to creat a linux partition (ex2)[22 gigs i think] and a swap partition [ 110 megs]
i re-booted, it did its "magic" and rebooted again
and installed fedora
and made the mistake of using a fedora boot list
i did try to make it able to boot using main partiton
but it won't
it shows the boot listmount /dev/hda7
i called that boot XP and still it won't
it says a whole bunch of stuff really fast, then has some weird letters
then comes up with a novel firmwear or something and has a 5 second count down, and then it goes back to the fedora boot screen! HELP! i NEED the xp back and working!
should i try using a xp boot disk of some sort?
i wanna keep both on the same comp
i have a ECS K7S5A PRO motherboard
Athlon XP 2400+ (but right now it shows as a xp 1800+ because i havn't flashed the bios)
thanks so much

POSTED FEB 15

well i've done more damage since last nite:

ok, i tried wiping the mbr, and the fixing it with xp disc, now neither will boot! then i tried rescuing with the yarrow disc 1, and it searched for the previous linux instalations, and said that a image or something was saved to /mnt/sysimage and to make it the main boot i enter chroot /mnt/sysimage and then it gave me a command prompt, i entered the command (chroot /mnt/sysimage) and it sat for a few seconds then skipped a line and gave me the same prompt, it didn't print that it did anything, but it didn't print any errors either. so i restarted, and it said "Searching for boot record on IDE-0.. OK
Missing Operating System" PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks So Much

POSTED FEB 15

also, if anyone has a linux FEDORA boot disk that can be put on disk on WINDOWS 98 old laptop (no burner currently available) it would be very much appreciated, just something that will boot linux, i dono how to do that, but i put the disk in, click boot from floppy in boot menu, then it boots the floppy, which finds and tells it where the linux instalation is, and then fedora starts up. thanks
btw, i just got linux, i have almost no idea how to use it, and i know no1 that does.... wow this is confusing
thanks again...
i need this stuff asap.
