I am doing my GCSE coursework and I need to find out how a professional has used the top command along with the ps and kill commands to diagnose a misbehaving system.

Have you read the man pages for each command? The ps command provides a snapshot of active processes. kill sends a signal to a specific process. Since kill uses the PID of a process the way to find it is from ps.

In general, the kill command is intended to send a signal to the process. By default, if we do not specify which signal to send, a signal SIGTERM (from the word termination) is sent. SIGTERM indicates to the process that it is necessary to terminate. Here and in my blog https://assignment.essayshark.com/blog/c-pr...er-from-1-to-5/ you can read more about these commands.

Top will enable you to find all processes running. This will help you know the system load an able carry out statistics. There is also the improved version for top called htop which is more quite user-friendly. Kill is a signal that instructs a program to end. Pkill will kill a process by name while killall will send signal to every instance. For more of this contact us through https://theessaypro.com/contact-us/ and we will give you more tutorials and past solved tasks on this.
