Linuxhelp _ Tips and Tricks _ Setting Up A Project Account

Posted by: Hemant Sep 14 2004, 06:42 PM

Hi..All..

As a system admin you may enounter cases where certain group of individuals are working on a project and thus must share a account.
This simple how-to is precisely about that.

Step1
Create a group...with

CODE
#groupadd -g 243 octave

here octave is the group name and 243 is the group Id.
Step2
Now create user accounts that belong to this group and have same home account.
Let's say "/home/octave".
Step3
The third step is to have settings such that everyone of that group is able to create a file in the directory "/home/octave" but no one is able to delete anything from "/home/octave".Use chmod for that...
CODE
#chmod 1755 /home/ocvate
