Linuxhelp _ Tips and Tricks _ Does Anyone Know Any Sites For Linux Software?

Posted by: Omlet Jan 15 2004, 10:58 AM

I'm looking for some good sites to get software for fedora core.
I've only been playing with linux for a few weeks so if there are some sites with lots of rpm files that would be a great help, eventually I'll remember how to do a command line installation, but computers never were my strong point...
I'm mostly looking for mp3 players and encoders, driver sites, file swapping programs (nothing too complex) and of course anything that's just plain fun. :P

I do look myself, but I'm never sure whats good and whats bad. Any help would be great. :D

There are thousands of download available from http://sourceforge.net/ or http://freshmeat.net/. You might want to check out the program Grip. It will play your CD's and rip them. Another program I use is Lame. It will convert a .wav file to mp3 very quickly. It is command line only, but is easy enough to use. ust for fun, I'm converting my old vinyl albums to .wav and mp3 formats. Thw .wav files I'm burning to CD form playing in the car etc.

If you can not find what you need at the above sites, try a search using www.google.ca/linux

Hope this gets you started.
