Linuxhelp _ Tips and Tricks _ Text Mode To Graphical Mode

If your system currently boots into text mode (console) and you want it to boot into graphical mode (XFree86) then simply edit your /etc/inittab file and change the runlevel.

You will have to change the following line:

id:3:initdefault:

to

id:5:initdefault:
