Linuxhelp _ News _ Openoffice.org 2.0

Posted by: DS2K3 Oct 21 2005, 04:27 PM

The first "stable" version of OpenOffice 2 was released yesterday. This latest release of the open-source office suite includes a much improved database frontend, capable of using "data documents" (the conept which MS Acess uses) and also ODBC/JDBC connectivity.

The full list of changes and new features can be found on the OpenOffice.org website at (you guessed it) www.openoffice.org

Installation is of the pre-compiled linux version relatively simple, just "rpm -i *" inside the RPMs directory. Menu-RPMS are provided for a number of distributions, and a .deb file is available for debian. If it isn't already, OpenOffice.org 2.0 should be available in your distribution's official package respository pretty soon.
