I have installed this on my test machine ... it looks and feels almost identical to redhat 9.0. Infact, since I use apt-get to manitain my main RedHat 9.0 workstation (and point to http://apt.physik.fu-berlin.de redhat/9/en/i386 at-stable at-good at-testing for updates) my normal RedHat 9.0 packages are only a couple minor versions behind the severn packages ... for example, Severn uses gcc-3.3-14 and my updated RH9 is using gcc-3.2.2-5 .... Severn is using glibc-2.3.2-57 and my RH9 is glibc-2.3.2-27.9, etc.

This install was fairly stable and painless (I did it as a new install, not an upgrade). I had only minor problems with the Mozilla 1.4 fonts ... and installing vera bitstream fonts corrected this issue.

BTW, using Debian SID is comparable to using the Severn install ... SID's current gcc is 3.3.1-0rc2 and they have a 2.4.21 kernel and a 2.6.0 test kernel....

There are many updates on the update channel for severn ... including Gnome 2.4.

Before you can connect to up2date and download the updates, you have to be a rhn member. Membership is free, sign up at https://rhn.redhat.com

Once you have an account and have registered your system, login to RedHat Network and goto the systems tab ... select System Entitlements on the right menu and set your severn computer to Demo or another elegable account ...update and then select the Severn Computer's profile ...

In the top right section of the profile, there is an Alter Channel Supscriptions ... select it and then select the Red Hat Linux (Severn) 9.0.93 - Beta Updates channel ...

I recommend that before you run up2date that you edit the file /etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date and find the line that says:

useGPG=1

and change it to:

useGPG=0

and save it.

(otherwise you will have to say yes to each file updated .... the severn updates are not currently signed with gpg....)

Now run up2date and update to get Gnome 2.4...and all the other RedHat Severn updates.

The latest Fedora/RedHat Beta release {Severn 9.0.94 (test release 2)} is now available...

With the TEST2 release of severn, you also have to add the updates channel to your RHN system profile to get updates for the release.

The intructions are the same as the 3rd post (Spet 19th) of this thread ... except the channel name is 9.0.94 not 9.0.93...
