Linuxhelp _ Technical Support _ Can't reconnect to internet after router power cycle

Posted by: Beckfield Apr 21 2009, 12:50 PM

I have a Windows 2k system and a Kubuntu 8.04 system connected to the internet via a router and a cable modem. If the router is powered down, then back up, the Windows system reconnects to the web, and I can surf, etc., as if it never happened. The Linux system has to be rebooted in order to reconnect.

Is there a way to get the Linux box to automatically reconnect like the Windows box does?

Any advice is appreciated.

The manual method in a console terminal would be to enter the following commands.
sudo ifdown
sudo ifup

Not aware of an automatic method.

Thanks, Michael. I found a discussion somewhere else that talked about a program called KNemo. I installed it, and it seems to be working to automatically re-establish the connection.

Thanks.
