Linuxhelp _ Technical Support _ Checkdisk killed my XP partition.

Posted by: binary10110 Mar 21 2009, 07:32 AM

I resized my XP Partition using PartitionMagic, to allow a 20GB space for openSUSE11.0

After installing openSUSE, I am no longer able to boot the XP partition. It tries to run checkdisk, but says checkdisk was not found and then tries to skip it. This is followed by the blue-screen of death.

Is there a way to avoid this?

Difficult to say at the moment. Does SuSE boot successfully?
Are there any restore partitions?

SuSE boots just fine.

I read that it might be because the NTFS partition is hidden?
I'm not sure how to get it back, though sad.gif

Post the output of the command:
fdisk -l (that is a small L and you must be root)

Unable to seek on /dev/sda

Crisis over, stand down!

The NTFS partition was hidden. The web told me to try a complex thing of making an MS Dos boot disk, then loading a program to make the NTFS active again.
I just used yast - partitions to configure the C:/ as NTFS instead of NTFS Hidden.

Easy as Pi.

Thanks for the help anyway, Michael.

Trust me there is nothing bad about writting over Vista, writting over any Windows install is a good thing, wipe of the enemy and leave only the true soliders
