Linuxhelp _ Technical Support _ Need help with squid/icap

Posted by: dustfinger Jan 2 2009, 11:46 PM

Alright, I'd like to do some content editing on the fly. I downloaded squid's 3.0 release from their website, did ./configure --enable-icap-client, and got it up and running. The proxy works great, I'm actually using it right now, everything's running smooth. But I'm confused about the whole icap aspect of it. First of all, I saw some links for "squid with icap support" ( How are those different than the release I got, which apparently also has icap functionality? Or do they have the actual server built in? I couldn't really figure that out....

So I tried to find an icap server. I downloaded icap-server, which is all python based. But it keeps giving me issues when I try to start it up, saying it can't find module 'http_date'. Here's the error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./", line 12, in <module>
    import icap_handler
  File "/home/username/Download/icap_server/", line 26, in <module>
    import http_date
ImportError: No module named http_date

I figure it has something to do with my setup file, which looks like this:

export ICAP_PATH=/home/username/Download/icap_server
export PYTHONPATH=$ICAP_PATH/medusa-20010416:$ICAP_PATH/proxylet:/usr/lib64/python2.5/site-packages
export http_proxy=

but I don't know what. Can anyone give me any tips, or perhaps point me in a different direction?
