Linuxhelp _ Technical Support _ New user seeks help

Posted by: studentbob Jun 14 2008, 08:38 AM

Apologies to all you who have probably answered these questions before, but I am pulling my hair out trying to install plugins. I have tried several different ways but always seem to hit a brick wall somewhere along the line. Can anyone point me to a page where simple commands and tasks are explained in an 'idiot proof' manner. This is my first time using linux and while I can see that it is a very good system, it is clear that I need a nudge in the right direction when it comes to administration and terminal use. Sorry for being a bit vague but if anyone can help on any topic, I will gladly give more details.
Thanks.

don't quite know what that means but here goes
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060309 Firefox/3.0
Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy)
Kernel Linux 2.6.24-18-generic
GNOME 2.22.2
AMD Athlon™64X2 DCP 4000+
Does that make sense to you ?
Thanks

Ubuntu is the linux distribution (distro). BTW if you want to get an idea on the number of distributions check out www.distrowatch.com.

I assume your trying to installl plugins for Mozilla. It would help to know which one. More information provided is better then none.

This might help.

Thanks very much for the link. I just got Realplayer installed using debian. First time it has worked properly.
Cheers Mate.
