Linuxhelp _ Technical Support _ special permissions

Posted by: init00 Mar 17 2008, 10:11 AM

I have no trouble setting permissions, but I do need help with making them stick.

Is there a way to make it so new documents/programs created in a folder hold on to the permissions of the folder they are in.
If I have:

drwxrwx--- 2 lissa staff 4096 Mar 30 2007 zoo

I figured out how to make it so everything created in this folder holds onto staff as the group but
when I file is created it sets the permissions like this:

-rwxr--r-- 1 lissa staff 16 Mar 30 08:27 texting.txt

Is there a way to make it so the files in this folder not only hold on to the group but also hold onto the permissions
given to the folder.

I would appreciate any help you can offer!

Thank you!
