There are linux ports fpr many games but none for WoW. However, you can get many windows programs to run in linux via WINE which is basically a compatibility layer.
It is not perfect by any means and where WoW works well many games may not. Check out http://www.winehq.org/ to see if all your games run under wine.

IMHO if all you want to do is play games then stick with windows. However, I would try Ubuntu since it is a good beginner distribution.

I play wow in a program called Cedega. http://www.transgaming.com/products/cedega/ which you can see a wow screen shot here http://www.transgaming.com/imgs/transgaming/screenshots/screen_cedega01.jpg. It offers more stability and support than WINE. Although I find wine is more faster then cedega. There was a issue a while ago regarding people being banned playing wow with wine and cedega seems to offer a more blizzard trusted environment. http://www.cedega.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=41042. But since then transgaming has been in talks with blizzard but i'm still not sure on the risks of still playing on linux.
