Linuxhelp _ Technical Support _ Iso Images And Md5 Checksums

Posted by: HelzBelz Oct 2 2002, 11:43 PM

My computer seems to freeze as I try to verify the integrity of my downloaded ".iso" images using "md5sum.exe" (command line) or "md5GUI.exe" (windows).

I've tried to run the checksum through Win98SE and Win2k, without success. I get no status info, dialog or progress report.

Question 1: How long should such a verification take ? i.e. a few minutes or a few hours ? (ballpark figure... for a 700MB iso ...)

Question 2: Anyone with a better suggestion for MD5 software under Windoze ? (my CD-RW, unfortunately, is not installed within my Linux box...)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Try http://download.com.com/3000-2248-10127196.html?tag=lst-0-3

verification shouldn't take long at all.

Thanks Joey !

The "Fsum" utility sure does the job, and covers many different formats (including MD5) !
