Linuxhelp _ Technical Support _ Environment Variables

Posted by: shabby Oct 29 2002, 10:52 AM

I am using Mandrake 8.0 and have installed Java 1.4 and J2EE 1.3.1 In my SAMS J2EE in 21 days it states I must enter the JAVA_HOME and J2EE environment variables in a .profile file in my home directory, I have looked and I cannot find it,(I have got hidden files visible) I wondered if anyone would be able to tell me where to put these variables as I cannot use J2ee at the moment. I am a Linux newbie so I really need explicit instructions. Thanx in advance

you can set your environment variable at the command line like this:

set JAVA_HOME=<path to your java location>
export JAVA_HOME

execute each line seperatly

you can also add the two lines in your .bash_profile for root
and add $JAVA_HOME to your PATH like this
export PATH

word of caution any in cap letters MUST be in cap letters when typed
